Children’s Trust Public Service Excellence Award

The Children’s Trust is sponsoring its Public Service Excellence Award for Trust funded providers who have members of their staff that exemplify the belief that the human element makes a difference in our lives; is an inspiration to other colleagues; and is long past due the recognition he or she deserves. The nominee must be an employee (not a manager or executive director) of a program or initiative funded by The Children's Trust; provide direct service to children and families; perform above and beyond job description and requirements to serve the children and families of Miami-Dade; exemplify the belief that the human element makes a difference in the lives of others, and recognizes that the human touch must be extended far beyond the confines of a standard workday; and be an inspiration to other workers. The recipient of the 2008 Public Service Excellence Award will be honored at The Children's Trust Champions for Children Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 6, 2008. Nomination deadline: June 27, 2008.

New Grant Announcement

Grants Available for Families Struggling with Child Health-Related Costs
The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation has announced that new grants are available to help children who need critical health care treatment, services, or equipment not covered or not fully covered by their parents' health benefit plans.
UHCCF provides grants to families to help pay for child health care services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy sessions, prescriptions, and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, orthotics, and eyeglasses.
Parents and legal guardians may apply for grants of up to $5,000 each for child medical services and equipment by completing an online application at the UHCCF Web site.
To be eligible for grants, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States, and be covered by a commercial health benefit plan.

CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, which supports organizations that serve children under 21 with disabilities, welcomes non-profits to apply for two funding opportunities: one for working with children with disabilities and the other for providing health care to needy populations. Applications accepted through June 15. Grants should address the following: accessibility to physical activity; early intervention; and health and rehabilitative services. Miami Art Museum (MAM) invites providers and families to its MAM in the Neighborhood kick-off party on Sunday, May 18, from 12-5 PM. Mattel Announces Continuation of Grant Program to Benefit
Children

Deadline: July 15, 2008
Mattel ( http://www.mattel.com/ ) and the Mattel Children's
Foundation

mattelFoundation.asp ) have announced they will continue the
Mattel Domestic Grantmaking Program, which provides funding for
organizations benefiting children in the United States.
Mattel's funding priorities include: programs that directly and
effectively impact children with demonstrated needs (physical,
financial, emotional, and health-related); preferences to pro-
grams with demonstrated results; and organizations that use cre-
ative and innovative methods to address a locally defined need
directly impacting children. Preference will be given to organ-
izations or programs that align with Mattel's philanthropic pri-
orities:
  • Learning -- Increasing access to education for under-
    served children and, in particular, innovative strategies to
    promote and address literacy;
  • Health -- Supporting the health
    and well-being of children, with particular emphasis on pro-
    moting healthy, active lifestyles;
  • Girl Empowerment --
    Promoting self-esteem in young girls, up to age 12.


Applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity
organizations (or have a fiscal sponsor with tax-exempt status)
and must directly serve children in communities within the U.S.
Grants will range from $5,000 to $25,000 each for one fiscal
year. Funds may be applied to programs or general operating
costs.

Creative Capital Accepting Applications for Grants in
Emerging Fields, Innovative Literature, and Performing
Arts

Deadline: March 4, 2008 (Letters of Inquiry)
Founded in 1999, the Creative Capital Foundation ( http://www.creative-capital.org/ ) is a national nonprofit organization that supports artists pursuing adventurous and imaginative work in the performing and visual arts, film/video, innovative literature, and emerging fields. The foundation is committed to working in long-term partnership with the artists it funds, making a multiyear financial commitment, and providing advisory services and professional development assistance along with financial support. Funded artists agree to share a small percentage of any net profits generated by their projects with Creative Capital, which applies those funds toward new grants.
In 2008, Creative Capital will support artists in Emerging Fields, Innovative Literature, and Performing Arts. Emerging Fields may include digital arts, gaming, sound art, architecture, design, interdisciplinary projects, and new genres. Innovative Literature may include poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and genre-defying liter- ary work. Performing Arts may include dance, music theater, exper- imental music performance, non-traditional opera, spoken word, theater/performance art, puppetry, and interdisciplinary projects.
To be eligible to apply, an artist must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the U.S.; at least 25 years old; and a working artist with at least five years of professional experience.
